Nick GrzendaNick is an up and coming jazz saxophonist and audio engineer. From birth he has been around audio, video, and Music. His father, the executive producer of a television station in Boulder, Colorado, allowed for early submersion in the field of audio. Starting at a young age he ran cameras and microphones for the T.V. station. At age 11 he started running cameras for live television broadcasts. Also a saxophonist, his father aided in his love for music. It is among Nick's beliefs that audio engineers should be musicians; logically, it promotes a more musical outcome of recordings. At age 6 Nick started learning the piano, and for the last 11 years he has been developing his ability as a saxophonist, and is currently working on a degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado. He has performed at numerous venues ranging from art galleries, restaurants, and fun parks, to opening for Wendy Woo at the Boulder Theater, the IAJE Conference in NY, and performing at UNC with James Carter, Kevin Mahogany, and Bob Mintzer. Nick is currently playing 2nd alto in the UNC Lab Band 1, who was ranked as the Best College Big Band in the Nation by "Down Beat" Magazine for '05 and '06, and got a performance award for '07. Now pursuing a career in audio engineering, Nick has learned from engineers including Greg Heimbecker, Mickey Houlihan, and Tom Bates. Fluent in the Pro Tools environment, Nick has worked with many genres of music including rock, country, jazz, salsa, musical theater, orchestras, wind ensembles, opera, and solo classical performances. Nick has had the honor of studying with and learning from some phenomenal jazz musicians including Peter Sommer, Greg Gisbert, Dana Landry, and Jim White. It is his wide range of knowledge and love for all genres of music that distinguishes him from the rest. |
